Happy Winter Break to all! I hope you are enjoying your time off from school. I am updating the very good scores from our last assessment on Module "D". The scores look great! During the break I have made the summative assessment available, for those that asked to review the assessment over the break. I think that is a great idea.

You will notice, you have a "Winter Break Compass Odyssey" assigned to each class. Ensure completion prior to our return to school on January 3, 2012. Also, there are two new Gizmo assignments due on 1.3.12. Remember to bring your completed exploration guide for your Gizmo due on 12.19.11. The two new gizmos do not require exploration guide completion, ensure you complete all assessment questions. The Gizmo assignments will remain available until 1.2.12.

I would also like to thank you, every parent, guardian, and student for a wonderful 2011 school year! I am grateful to be apart of the academic development of such an amazing group of learners. I am very thankful to be a teacher at Landon and have the opportunity to work with such a committed group of learners. I expect next year will be even better! Ladies and Gentlemen, As we approach the end of Module "B" (Chapter 2) for all classes, prepare now for your test by reviewing your notes and bell ringers. I will be hosting tutoring sessions on Monday's immediately after school until 3:00pm for those interested. That will include October 10th as well. Hello to all Parents and Students and welcome to Julia Landon College Preparatory (JLCP), School.

Hi, I am Mr. Lee and I am delighted to hear of your arrival to the pride land! I imagine you are excited and refreshed from your summer break and are ready to start the school year. I promise to do my best and provide you with the best possible learning environment. So come to class ready to share and learn how math makes our world a better place to live. I am posting a few items to consider as we begin school on Monday.

First, learning is seldom experienced in a vacuum or without the assistance of people, places, and experiences, so I am asking all of my students to bring in a few pictures. Pictures of people you respect and appreciate. Pictures of family, friends, and leaders that have impacted your life. The common denominator of all these people is the positive motivation they have on us and why we need to learn and develop as leaders. Once you get into class, you'll see how we create a wall of inspirations and focus our learning and leadership development.

Secondly, you make all the difference in learning! Learning is one of the most dynamic experiences we share collectively. If one person is absent or not engage in the learning process, we all may walk away wondering what just happen? So I want you to come to class everyday understanding you are very important to the learning environment we create and it is just not the same without You!

Wow, another great week in Math! I can appreciate the attention and the focus all are displaying as we prepare for a finest moment yet! Wow, the first week of the third quarter was very productive, it was great to see so many ready for Slope, or Inequalities, or Converting Decimals, Fractions and Percents! We are off to a very good start and I am excited how much fun the third quarter is going to produce.

As a reminder, keep up with all assignments, they are building blocks at this point and will be the needed foundation for exploring other areas in math. If you are absent or unable to attend a class, do call a classmate to get the notes and discuss a little before coming to class. Welcome to the Third Quarter!

Welcome Back! We are in the 2nd semester and entering the season for testing! You got it, Benchmarks and the FCAT are on the way!

In Math our focus will remain constant, we need to appreciate concepts, not simple workout problems. In preparation for ensuring we have a deep meaningful appreciation of the topics, I am requiring ALL students to complete exploration guides and explain in detail how calculations are derived. Focus on showing your work and telling me why, "IDK" is unacceptable!

At this point, we have the vocabulary and the experience to articulate our conclusions and why. So expect to do so, this will ensure we approach our topics with the proper mindset. I am very pleased at the progress of each class. We are working hard and the results of our labor is producing long term mathematical development. We need to have a positive attitude and focus on Math. Science and History fair projects are done, now we focus on allowing you to use many of the same skills from Social Studies and Science to express yourselves in Math. I am excited to see your creative approach to our Math topic! BOOM!

For Parents: Great job! I appreciate your support and commitment to your child's Mathematical development. Any success we experience in class is a team effort and I am genuinely excited to be apart of this amazing team. As we move forward, I have three request.

First, timeliness of assignments. Ensure all assignments are delivered on time. Gizmo's, compass Odyssey, Test Reflections and etc... They really help me assess the pacing of the class and how to move forward, if remediation is needed.

Secondly, home study routine. As little as 15-20min each day reviewing the math concept we discussed or introduced in class will make a significant difference in class preparations and test results. I like to share with the students, "Preparation is never lost time" this really helped me in college and now. Please ask them to study in short routine methods and not the two or three hours on a Saturday or Sunday.

Thirdly, Using math at home is powerful. As your little calculator ask them how would they add, subtract, multiply and divide all the time. In the store, in the car, have them calculate as often and as much as possible, I think they will impress you and certainly improve their basic arithmetic skills.

I am not trying to make Mathematicians of them all, just ensuring they are not intimidated by math and that they have every opportunity to fully develop a life long needed skill. Thank you again, I say it and mean it, I am honored to be apart of your child's math development, all of them are the great minds of our next generation and will make a lasting impact on our world!

In regards to the JU Girls Basketball game, I have a ticket for each player and one additional tickets for those parents that requested tickets via, email or in person. I am asking the team to be present at 12:30 - 12:45, parking is available for free at "Lot Z" on a first come first serve bases. Hello All, It is great to see everyone back and in flow of Math. Over the break you did an amazing job in completing your Gizmo's and Compass Odyssey! It was simply awesome, I am very excited to see how well you manage your academics in 2011. I am still grading many of the assignments, so please be give me a little more time. I want to accurately account for all you diligent work.

On the radar: I will be out on Tuesday this week, Professional Development in Mathematics for me, early release this week and we all out on next Monday, in remembrance of Dr. Martin Luther King, so we will have a short week next week and an earlier release this week. I am very excited about the level of commitment in our math groups! We are all working very hard to appreciate the concepts in Math specific to "fractions and decimals", thank you! Odyssey Problems
Odyssey Learning Paths have been extended until Monday, October 11th (one hour due) because of the issue some of you were experiencing. See below to resolve the problem.
Issue:
Session timeouts on initial login and during their sessions.
Compass Odyssey Session Timeouts

Symptoms:
When connect to Odyssey Login page the rocket ship number should not change when reloading/refreshing the page.
Upon a refresh/reload the rocket ship number changes meaning that the session cookie is corrupt or not being created locally.

Resolution:
Logged in as the user with the problem
Open Internet Explorer
Delete the cookies on the local machine.

Under Browsing history
Delete
Delete Cookies
Close
OK

Close all IE Windows and restart Internet Explorer. Once connected to Odyssey the number should not change upon refresh

Super Sixth, I hear you are doing very well! I am proud of the effort and commitment I am seeing in keeping up with classwork, Compass Odyssey, and The Gizmo's, very impressive. Additionally, I shared with some Japanese students, how focus and diligent you are in succeeding in Math and I am sure one day many of you will meet them in your role as global leaders!

Here are a few things to keep in mind for next week.

Ensure you are completing 1hour of Comp Ody and Gizmo assignments. I will post new Gizmo's on Monday 9.20.10. Do not forget to turn in your Exploration Guides on Monday 9.20.10 or 9.21.10, the next class session, if needed.

Hello Landon Lions or as I like to say, "The Super Sixth!" I hope your weekend went well and you enjoyed every moment of it! I am sure glad you are back. Wow, our second week is begnininng!

A quick recap of last week, we took a view diagnostic test to benchmark math skills, developed classroom norms and expectations, and established our daily routine. All in all, a very productive week. At this point, I imagine we are all feeling more secure about the sixth grade and if not, asking questions for clearity. I can see the name "The Super Sixth" is very fitting for the group. I wanted to share, I am very impressed with the attitudes and level of commitment I am seeing in and outside of the classroom. Reminder, "preparation is never lost time", so come to class prepared and review your notes before each class. Ask the tough questions, I'm looking forward to great dialogue about math and the concepts we are using to master problem solving.

Hello to all Parents and Students and welcome to Julia Landon College Preparatory (JLCP),

First, learning is seldom experienced in a vacuum, so I am asking all of my students to bring in a few pictures. Pictures of people you respect and appreciate. These can be pictures of family, friends, and our community leaders. Pictures of performers, entertainers, athletes, and You. The common denominator of all these people is that they motivate us, encourage us, and remind us of why we need to learn and develop as leaders. Once you get into class, you'll see how we create a wall of inspirations and focus our learning and leadership development.
